A blurry Vision…

In the reading “Toward a New Vision” by Patricia Hill Collins. I felt that there were a couple of things that she mentioned that I strongly agree with and that I wanted to speak about. Which are also things that I have discussed with other classmates about before.

First thing that Collins made a comment on was how some white women tend to resist seeing how much thier white skin privleges them. I read and discussed in a sociology class about a women who recently realized how much she gets away with because of the color of her skin. The lady discssued in her article a little about shopping, and how she once witness shoplifting, and how the store manager sat there and watched somoeone of color the whole time they shopped and barely even looked away to asked the other two women in the store including herself if they needed any help. And that the whole time the other white lady that was there had stuffed two shirts in her BIG bag she had brought in the store and walked out with. And the lady was told to have a nice day as she walked out with thier merchandise. This clearly showed the lady that wrote the article how thier skin color benefited them in this situation.

Another thing that Patricia Hill Collins commented on was how African American WOMEN seem to experience the negative end of the stick on all ends as far as race, class AND gender oppression.  To me this is very true because of course white men/women have the beneifts because of thier race. Black men because they are men, and then it is the african american women who are left and they are women and they are black. Two things that have negative effects.
